It has multiple sections within the museum premises, which carrying hundreds of things from history and evolution of humans to species.It also has sculptures from different eras, it's really fascinating and thrilling to see things that are even centuries old than human existence.Also, it's easy to reach at this place, if you're nearby to Dharmtalla or Park Street, it's must visit place.

While the location itself is undeniably stunning, my experience was ruined by the behavior of some security personnel. They repeatedly and rudely inquired about my photo permit, despite me visibly holding it in hand. While I understand their responsibility to enforce regulations, their approach lacked courtesy.Also, I observed instances of visitors touching sculptures and artifacts, seemingly unnoticed by the security guards who were either preoccupied with their phones or seemingly asleep. Amazing place! There are so many very very interesting things separately displayed in different rooms. The most interesting thing in there is the Egyptian section. There is no photo taking allowed that's a bummer but there is a legit mummy about 4000 years old which is very fascinating watching that from this close is a very surreal experience to me. A very good place for those who explore historical things, culture etc.But there are many things which are not properly maintained. For example the room in which all kinds of fish and birds were not maintained properly. Lack of light you can't even see the things clearly. They should look into this.There is a cafeteria behind the museum where you must try it. The taste and price were really good.Overall a good experience.

Not really happy with the experience. The museum itself appears like a historical ruin in dire need of proper maintenance. There are betel nut juice stains on the wall in the corner of the staircase. If visitors are doing that then they should be heavily penalized. CCTV footage should be properly monitored by the concerned personnel. The plaster has come off from many places along the main stairs. The artefacts are covered with dust. The invaluable mummy box is sealed using common brown packing tape. The lawn is extremely ill maintained. It can be developed in a garden or park but it is just a grassy patch with a water hose in the middle of it which absolutely spoils the aesthetic appeal of the lawn. The displayed items need to be cleaned and dusted. The flooring is damaged. The walls and doors are damaged. It just looks like a derelict structure. Some interactive digital kiosks were installed but on clicking there are no videos and no data available. Visiting the museum feels like visiting a historical structure which is gradually transforming itself into a ruin because of lack of maintenance. A very sorry state of affairs indeed. I would not visit again.

Its my 1 st time to visit this meuseum and I loved it a lot.There are so many things to see.For college students it will be a great place to learn.I liked the collection they have . And the building structure which I liked the most.Its more than 200 years old.But in many places they have no labeling. They should also provide some pamplet or reading material so that a common man like me can understand .They allow mobiles to take inside and charge some extra money for that.

A museum with a great collection but it can be very uncomfortable in summer because it is so hot and does not have air conditioning. The labels are not always detailed, except in the archaeological section, and a map of the exhibits will be useful to determine which exhibits to prioritize. Some sections like rock and minerals have an extremely strong smell I assume from preservatives.

This place was constructed in 1814 & it has a lot of collectibles. But very sorry to say that the condition of this place is really disheartening. The place is extremely large so I understand it might be very difficult to maintain. But still the government should take initiative to properly maintain this place. It is huge.. And very beautiful as well as well maintained. The entry fees is 70rs for adults and 40 or 20 rs for children above age of 5. It is magnificent and has 2 floors. It contains all the things related to history, geography, biology, science, Renaissance, about the glory of India.. It has a big garden in center. The white colour attracts the tourists even more. Nice place but yes old.Please put more signboard to give contexts of things more especially on the sculpture rooms. The human room the information boards are not clear at all. Can't refer information and get the connection.Food in canteen is awesome.

**Review:**My recent visit to the Indian Museum in Kolkata was quite disheartening, especially considering the memories I had from visiting it as a child 25 years ago. The museum, which once showcased a rich and diverse collection, now seems to be suffering from severe neglect.The exhibits, particularly the mineral collection, appear to have been forgotten, with decades of dust accumulating in the cases, making everything look dull and identical. The number of exhibits has noticeably decreased since my last visit as a child, and the lack of educational labeling near the displays made it difficult to learn anything new. In the Egyptian section, there is a mummified hand, but it lacks any detailed information, and the bust of Nefertiti is not even labeled as a replica, which is misleading considering the original is housed in a German museum.The building itself, a majestic structure from 1814, is sadly losing its charm and now seems to be part of the broader decay affecting much of the city's heritage. The fossil section, which I remembered fondly, has been replaced with a Bengali art gallery—an odd choice that doesn’t seem to fit within the museum's context. Worse, the entire place had an unpleasant smell, reminiscent of a poorly maintained public restroom, with the overwhelming scent of naphthalene in the air.What was once a place where I could spend hours exploring and learning, I now finished in just 45 minutes. The overall experience was disappointing and a stark reminder of the gradual decline of this once great institution. I expected so much more, but unfortunately, the Indian Museum has not kept pace with the times or with basic maintenance standards.

Wow, what a treasure trove! I spent hours exploring the Indian Museum Kolkata and I'm still reeling from the experience. As an anthropology enthusiast, I was particularly fascinated by the zoology section - who knew India had such a rich collection of taxidermied animals?! And the Egyptian mummy? Mind blown! The air-conditioned room was a welcome respite from the Kolkata heat.But, I have to deduct points for the lack of proper air circulation in the rest of the museum. I was sweating buckets in the art & archeology section, which was a shame because the Mughal paintings? Breathtaking. I snapped away with my DSLR, trying to capture the intricate details. And the anthropology of art exhibit? So thought-provoking.I loved how the museum took me on a journey through Indian culture and human evolution. And the fact that it was established in 1814? Very hot and humid. Except Egypt section no AC. (Egypt section is very small and except for a mummy nothing is there, only a couple of photos which are not old) Not sure why the camera is not allowed in th Egypt section but my guess is they do not want people to know that actually nothing is there.Among other sections some sculptures are good, no other sections worth a mention. Zoological and botanical section absolutely waste of time. Nothing in human evolution.If my memory serving me right then a lot was there around 30 years back when I visited last time.Only one washroom which is in pathetic condition. It probably gets cleaned once a day.Washroom and Fan/AC needs immediate attention.
