Joseph's Hospital after a valiant fight with pulmonary hypertension. A native of Atlanta, she was the eldest child of Greek immigrants, the late Charles Argiro Peppas. After graduating from Grady High School in 1954, she enrolled at Agnes Scott College as a day-student. A member of Phi Beta Kappa and Mortar Board, she graduated from Agnes Scott in 1958 with high honors. Over the years, she worked in various sectors of the real estate industry but resigned from her position at a leading hotel brokerage firm in 2000 to spend more time with her husband, children and grandchildren.
She was very proud of her Greek heritage and was blessed to have the opportunity to travel to Greece and introduce her children to their roots. She was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, a lifetime member of the Daughters of Penelope, and served as national secretary of the Laconian Society of America. She taught Sunday School, played the organ and sang in the choir, and most recently served on the church's Archives Committee to compile a formal history of the Greek Orthodox community here in Atlanta. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, James Louis Kanellos; children Louis J. TURNER Mr. Kenneth G. Turner, 73, of Sharpsburg died Saturday, August 9, 2008. A native of Fulton County, Mr. Turner served in the U.
S. Army as a Military Policeman stationed in Sandia Base, Alburquerque, New Mexico. He retired with thirty-two years service from Prudential Insurance Company. He was born April 1, 1932 and raised in Birmingham, Alabama where he was an outstanding paper carrier and an Eagle Scout at age 13.
He graduated from University of the South in 1954 where he played football, basketball and was an SAE. He then entered the air force and was a pilot and an instructor pilot of attaining the rank of captain. In 1960 he started Hale Contracting Company in Atlanta. He was active in construction and land development for 40 years including development of Barbour Island in South Georgia. He was passionate about Barbour Island, boating, water sports and the great outdoors.
He was a member of the Atlanta Athletic Club for 50 years where he was handball champion for 1 4 years. Mr. Hale leaves behind his older brother Mr. James Walton Hale of Palm Harbor Florida, his 3 children; Mrs. Leigh Hale Welch, Mr.
Michael Thomas Hale, and Mr. William Lee Hale his 3 stepdaughters; Mrs. Melissa Ward Hailey, Mrs. Andrea Ward Watson, and Mrs. Stephanie Ward Leist.
He was also blessed with 17 grandchildren. Always a dreamer he will be missed by all. Betty has worked with ardor and joy in many roles, as a juvenile court probation officer, a manager, family therapist, mediator and trainer, step mother, and "favorite Betty became a heart transplant recipient in 1999 and never missed a beat living life. She has fondly been called the "Grandmother of Mediation" in Georgia. She also was a past president of GAMFT, and one of the first to receive the Family Mediation Founders Award. She is survived by her beloved step daughter Helen Cabe, her mother, Lois Hemphill Manley, Teresa Lemaire, three sisters, Janice, Carol and Cheryl and one brother, Billy. A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, August 12th, at 2 P.M.
