Het verhaal is een samenraapsel van elementen uit bekende sprookjes en sciencefiction: hoofdpersoon Alita (volledig digitaal maar gemodelleerd naar Salazar) is een cyborg met geheugenverlies, die in een grauwe toekomststad van een schroothoop wordt gehaald en opgelapt door een robotbouwer (Waltz). Tot hun beider schrik blijkt het tienermeisje fenomenaal te kunnen vechten. Halfbakken script, maar daar leiden de razendknappe effecten en onderhoudende cyberpunkactie net voldoende van af.
