Square Enix's Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the acclaimed second entry in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, continues the story of Cloud Strife and his friends as they journey beyond Midgar in pursuit of Sephiroth and in an effort to stop Shinra from exploiting the planet's Lifestream. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth takes players into a much larger world than its predecessor, eventually even opening up enough to allow players to use the Tiny Bronco and explore the furthest reaches of the map. There are plenty of secrets to find in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, including some optional locations that can only be discovered using the Tiny Bronco. One particular optional location may even give players a taste of a location that is only mentioned in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth but will undoubtedly open up in the trilogy's final entry.
Once players collect all the Protorelics in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, they can board the Tiny Bronco and sail north of the Under Junon port to find Gilgamesh Island. This mysterious island is home to Gilgamesh, a recurring character in the Final Fantasy series who, interestingly enough, never appeared in the original Final Fantasy 7. However, upon defeating Gilgamesh in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, players will acquire the Gilgamesh summon materia, which allows them to summon the powerful entity in battle thereafter. The aesthetics of Gilgamesh Island resemble the iconic Wutai location from the original Final Fantasy 7 that players will be visiting in Part 3 of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, so they can get a taste of what Wutai will look like ahead of time by visiting it.

With rumors of an FF9 remake indicating it could be next, one of FF7 Rebirth's weaker changes may be better off not returning.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Gilgamesh Island Resembles Wutai Village
Final Fantasy 7's Wutai Village Resembles Japanese Architecture
In the original Final Fantasy 7, players can visit Wutai Village during the "Homecoming of a Miserable Daughter" quest. Like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Gilgamesh Island, Wutai Village is an optional location in Final Fantasy 7, but is still worth a visit. Its architecture and geography are very Japanese-inspired, with the island of Itsukushima likely serving as a significant inspiration for its appearance.
In many ways, the buildings in Wutai Village look very similar to those players can find throughout the island of Tsushima in Sucker Punch's acclaimed action-adventure title Ghost of Tsushima. Wutai Village is mentioned in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, but players are unable to visit it. Presumably, however, Wutai Village will be accessible by players in Part 3 of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Gilgamesh Island Takes on a Similar Appearance to Wutai Village
Gilgamesh Island is exclusive to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, as it cannot be visited in the original game. Even so, it seems to have been modeled after Wutai Village (or Japanese architecture in general). In fact, the structures on Gilgamesh Island look almost identical to those in Final Fantasy 7's Wutai Village, despite featuring the high-quality textures and colors the original game was unable to utilize. As such, this is probably the closest thing to Wutai Village players will get until they are able to visit it in the concluding part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy.
Of course, this all comes with the assumption that Wutai Village will be a featured location in the next Final Fantasy 7 Remake game, but it is an educated assumption given that Wutai is briefly mentioned in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. As players finally board Cid's airship, the Highwind, in the last Final Fantasy 7 Remake entry, they will be able to explore the world to their heart's content, most likely including the beautiful Wutai Village.
