Easy Lemon Sugar Scrub

This deliciously lemony and amazingly moisturizing scrub is a dream to use and the perfect handmade gift!

Prep Time10 minutes mins

Servings: 4 jars

Equipment

  • Mason jars

Instructions

  • Place 1 cup of coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl and melt for about 45 seconds. Coconut oil will be solid below 76°F. If you live in a warmer climate, your coconut oil may already be liquid in the jar, so you don't need to heat it.

  • Measure 2 cups of sugar into a bowl and slowly add your melted coconut oil. Mix until your sugar and coconut oil are combined. Your mixture should be more sugary than oily.

  • Next, add about 40-50 drops of lemon essential oil.

  • Spoon the scrub into your mason jar, then seal.

  • For gifting, wrap your jar in a cellophane bag and attach a wooden spoon (for scooping) with twine. Add a tag to this perfectly giftable treat, and you're done!

Notes

We love using lemon oil because it is antibacterial and antifungal, so it's perfect for the kitchen. And it just smells so good! But if lemon is not your thing, you can supplement any other citrus oil or even lavender.

See?! We told you this was easy. And we can already smell that lemony goodness! Mmmmmm…

I’m pretty sensitive to fragrances, even pure essential oils, so I’m guessing that I could just make this with perhaps 1/2 or 1/3 the amount of essential oil? And yes, mine’s therapeutic grade, too. 😉 So many people go into a state of shock to find out that people can still have issues. I do own therapeutic grad lemon oil, and thankfully I don’t seem to have as many issues with the citrus oils (except bergamot) but I did find that when I tried to diffuse them, I still have problems. Any ideas?

Jordan, I would love to hear about any testing you’ve done to compare essential oil brands. I’ve never heard of Spark, but would be interested to know how they measure up. I’ve always used Now, Aura Cacia and Nature’s Alchemy. I did a side by side test of my Now oils with some doTerra samples, and unfortunately for the purse, doTerra won by a landslide in the smell, taste and skin tests.. How did you come to your conclusion? Where does Spark rank?

      Chris,
I’ve compared DoTerra and Sparks peppermint and wild orange, and they seemed comparable to me. One of my family members insists there is no way that Sparks can do as much research as DoTerra and have as good of products, but someone I know who has worked for both is very happy with Sparks. It’s a bit of a charged issue for those with ties to both companies, but I’m happy with Sparks. I’ve heard that they use some of the same suppliers. DoTerra is a great company, I think, though, and I’ll continue to use their products as well.

I finally made the scrub, I really like it. I decided it needed some lavender as well as lemon, which turned out well. I’m thinking I should have used some wild orange or tangerine and made it more citrus like. Maybe next time.

Lemon Sugar Scrub | 3-Ingredients and Dreamy! - Fun Cheap or Free (16)
So I made this, this weekend with the exact measurements and mine seemed pretty oily. So I added more sugar and it still seemed oily so I added even more sugar, now 2 days later it’s hard! I’m not sure if it’s supposed to turn hard? I can still scoop it out but it’s harder than I feel like it should be. So I think I should have left it how it was at first and not added all the extra sugar! But my husband loves it since he’s a plumber he is able to scrub his hands really good and makes them soft after a day at work! I’m going to try making it again and not adding extra sugar. Also my lemon essential oil isn’t strong enough either, I even put a lot of extra lemon drops and it don’t smell lemon enough for me! I need to redo this and try again lol!
